Ashaka
Born Linval Thomas, and hailing from Kingston, Jamaica, reggae recording artist Ashaka is back in the grooves and emerging with a fresh, new, reggae dance vibe. It’s contemporary, it’s reggae, it’s fresh, it pop’s, it’s classic, and it rocks. Ashaka’s forthcoming full-length album "The Real Deal" is scheduled to be released later this year.
Ashaka has been bubbling in and around the Illinois (East St Louis) and St Louis (Missouri) bi state areas and has been felt and appreciated by reviewers and fans alike. The editorials explain it best.
In interview with Norman Parish of the St Louis Post Dispatch, Mike Kociela, owner of the entertainment company, Entertainment Saint Louis, and a local expert on reggae in the St Louis area said, “Thomas is talented. Thomas gave a strong performance as part of an opening act for a Jimmy Cliff concert in St Louis about three years ago. Thomas stage name then was Prodigal. Thomas stood out from everybody. He was good.”
Again in the Riverfront Times, St Louis premier entertainment newspaper, Ashaka was characterized as follows, “At night the Kingston, Jamaica, native, becomes the roots reggae wizard Ashaka. Formally known as the Prodigal, Ashaka writes and sings pure classic reggae, the sort of stuff you hear cover bands aping endlessly. See this act and you will ask yourself, who knew we had this caliber of reggae artist in the bi-state area?”
Watch out for Ashaka’s long awaited full-length album. Stay tuned…
